Have you heard other parents talk about parent education programs and wondered what they were like? Maybe you're trying to work out which course may suit your family?

Below are a few testimonials from Parents. They are commenting on the most commonly SFRP-funded Parent Education courses.

Course: TIPS – Tips and Ideas on parenting skills.

Description: This program was developed in New Zealand it can be run over a 5 to 10 week period, parents meet for 2 hours at a time. There are 10 modules of information that the group decide which ones to cover. Because of this flexibility it can cater to parents of children aged 2 to 13 or 14.

Here's what some parents have said about the TIPS course being run at their local Primary school, with funding supplied by SFRP:

"The course is really good. Some of the ideas are not new but it gives me confidence. I like learning one thing at a time but together over the course this makes big learning for me." ChiChi - two children aged 6 and 8 years

"It improves my parenting skill. Some things I already knew but it helps me recall it. Parents should know how to handle the situations properly as they are a good model for their kids." Samreena - three children 13yrs, 10yrs, 5yrs

"It's a good way to start the week. Hands on, practical and realistic approaches to Parenting .I'm feeling more confident about the way I now handle situations."Anne - three children aged 6, 4, and 1 years.

Course: Triple P - Positive Parenting Program.

Description: Triple P has been developed and tested in Australia at the University of Queensland. Triple P sessions are 2 hours long. Parents attend four groups and then receive 2 or 3 phone calls before a final group session. In the group sessions parents watch videos of the strategies being talked about as well as getting a chance to practise them.

Here’s what a parent from Inner West Multiple Birth Association said about Triple P – Positive Parenting Program they attended.

“It was really great to know that there is support out there like this for me.” Katrina – one child aged 4
